Sometimes, when you open the jar of pickles, you may see a white layer on them.
Definitely some questions come to your mind, Right?
Should I remove the white layer and use the pickles or throw them all away?!
Before making a decision, it is better to carefully examine the layer on the pickles!
If after opening the pickles jar, you see a thick, patchy layer with white, blue, green or black lint, this layer is mold and can be dangerous to your health, so it is better not to use such pickles!
Most of the time however, you will see a thin, wrinkled and opaque layer in white or gray on the surface of the pickled cucumbers, which is called a chalk layer that forms on its surface and would dissolve easily in water.
This layer is not mold, but a type of yeast that forms in fermented foods, especially pickles, and is not dangerous to your health.
In general, as long as it does not smell bad or taste unpleasant and its texture has not softened, you can wash the surface of the pickled cucumber and consume it!
What do you think should be done to make pickles last longer?
