If you decide to buy nuts, you would better consider these tips so that you do not get scammed!
First of all, cross out nuts that are too colorful!
For example, pistachios with very yellow skin and red kernels or seeds that are dark black, all of these are unnatural.
Most of these nuts are old and in order to hide their oldness, they are dyed; dyes that are harmful to your digestive system and even carcinogenic.
One way to identify dyed nuts is to pour some of it into your fist and wait a few moments.
If your hand gets colored, it means they are covered with dye.
Nuts that are too salty or have too much crystal salt on them, or have been flavored by roasting or using lemon juice and strong spices, these may not be fresh either!
This is usually done to hide the smell of oldness.
Be sure to smell the nuts; if they smell musty, earthy, or stale, don't buy them!
Consider closely the appearance of the nuts.
If you see black spots, small or large holes, or insect remains on them, they are infested with pests or possibly have been contaminated with mycotoxins that can damage your kidneys and liver and even cause cancer.
Don't be fooled by shiny nuts!
Some sellers use chemicals to make nuts more attractive and increase their shelf life, which can damage your liver over time.
So, avoid buying over-roasted nuts, as they may contain a compound called acrylamide, clogging your arteries over time and even increase the risk of cancer.
It is better to buy nuts with the skin on, because the fat in the nut kernel oxidizes quickly when exposed to air, and this will give them a sharp and unpleasant taste!
Usually, comparing between the roasted and raw nuts, the latter is better as it is easier to tell whether they are fresh or not by their color, smell, taste and appearance, while the oldness of nuts can be hidden by roasting and flavoring.
We recommend buying fresh and raw nuts and then roast them yourself at home on low heat.
Following the said tips can help you make a better choice.
