What are fungal toxins?
Fungal toxins or mycotoxins are toxic substances naturally produced by some molds or fungi and
contaminate the food consumed by livestock and human. Research shows that more than 25% of
agricultural products in the world, the best part of which include cereals and dried fruits, are
contaminated with these toxins. If the animal consumes food contaminated with these toxins, it is
likely that its milk and meat get contaminated. Humans are exposed to these toxins through food
and sometimes through skin contact and breathing. To reduce the entry of these toxins into the
body, it is often enough to buy fresh food products and check the production date. If the food is
discolored or moldy, we should not buy them at all because moldy food cannot be used even if
we remove the contaminated part. A good practice eventually is not to mix the newly purchased
products with the old ones and store them in a cool place.
