Is this food safe?
Sometimes, canned food may be contaminated with dangerous bacteria and toxins during production, storage, and transportation under improper conditions.
This may bring about a number of health threats, starting from simple digestive problems to severe cases including paralysis and even death!
But don't worry, these risks can be mitigated by following a few simple tips.
First: Before buying, have look to the appearance of the can.
If it is damaged, swollen, rusty, or leaking, do not buy it.
Second: Be sure to boil the closed can for 20 minutes before consumption, noting that the can must be completely immersed in boiling water so that the heat reaches all its parts and under no circumstances put the can directly on the flame!
Third: If you decide not consuming the heated canned food for any reason while it is not opened, put it in the refrigerator and consume it within 2 days.
If you plan to consume the contents of the same canned food raw or cold, you can boil it again before consuming to be sure of it being clean and healthy.
But if you’ve opened the can, you should consume it within 2 hours at the latest.
Otherwise, if you are not willing to consume it immediately, be sure to pour the contents of the can into a clean, covered container and put it in the refrigerator.
Never put an opened canned food in the refrigerator and try to consume it within a day.
Remember, be sure to reheat it before consuming so that the steam could be seen rising from it.
By following the said tips, you can consume canned food with more confidence!
